Related to logical-mathematical intelligence, Katzowitz (2002) states that logical-mathematical intelligence, in which one can easily see quantitative relationships, especially with regard to calculations and the scientific field. People who are competent in their logical abilities, Gardner (2003) states that logical-mathematical intelligence includes a person's ability to think inductively and deductively, think according to the rules of logic, understand and analyze patterns of numbers, and solve problems using thinking skills. . Students who have logical-mathematical intelligence like counting activities and have high speed in solving math problems or problems. In class, if the teacher wants to create a learning atmosphere that optimizes logical-mathematical intelligence, the learning process that needs to be developed is a learning process as follows.
a. Use a variety of question and answer strategies
b. Pose problems for students to solve
c. Instruct students to express their understanding by using concrete objects.
d. Ask students to state the reasons for their statements and opinions.
e. Provide opportunities for students to make observations and analyzes.
Logical-mathematical intelligence involves many components, mathematical calculations, logical thinking, problem solving, deductive and inductive considerations, as well as the sharpness of patterns and relationships. In essence, mathematical abilities are the ability to recognize and solve problems. Children who have logical-mathematical intelligence usually have good grades in mathematics, their way of thinking when speaking, and solving logical and rational problems. These students usually like to study with schemes, charts, and don't really like reading long sentences.
Meanwhile, Nguyen and Luu (2011) state that logical-mathematical intelligence is the ability to think about problems logically and systematically and use numbers effectively. People who are strong in this type of intelligence often choose careers as statisticians, science teachers, economists, computer analysts, scientists, mathematicians, accountants, logicians, etc.
In order to improve or strengthen logical-mathematical intelligence, it is important to carry out the following activities:
a. The sequence of events to the storyline and sequential presentation of subject matter.
b. Presenting television shows about science, science demonstrations and experiments.
c. Stories about famous scientists and their discoveries, or detective stories.
d. Organizing with Venn diagrams, sorting, classifying, using symbols.
e. Logical-mathematical games like Clue.
f. Follow directions to achieve goals, hypothesize, predict, and experiment.
g.Language problem solving activities using logic, reasoning puzzles and logical
argumentation.
h. Analyze grammar, identify patterns, code generation, decode.
From some of the opinions above, logical-mathematical intelligence is a person's ability to think inductively, deductively, logically, rationally, and mathematically so that it is easy to understand and analyze patterns and relationships of numbers, schemes, and charts effectively. (1)
